Friday Connections offers a variety of activities, games, film screenings, and speakers for older adults. Meet someone new or catch up with a friend over a cup of tea!

Every Friday at 1pm – Free – Register below, but walk-ins are always welcome.

This series is presented in partnership with the City of Lafayette’s Senior Services Commission.

Do you like music? Thinking about picking up an instrument? Join us for a special all ages musical lecture and demonstration featuring a wind quintet composed of four woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon) plus one brass instrument (French horn).

Each musician will demonstrate their instrument’s sound and musical range and the group will perform an 11 minute narrated version of Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”, featuring solos by each instrument serving to represent the animals in the story.

This is a free event sponsored by the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation.

Join us for the 4th Annual Dogtown Downtown. This is a FREE community event for two and four-legged canine enthusiasts – everyone is welcome to participate in the dog parade and activities. Enter your dog in the contests too.

Registration starts at 9:30am at Lafayette Plaza Park. Parade begins at the Lafayette Library amphitheater at 10am.

Mary McCosker will give an overview of our libraries from 1870 to the present day, when a civic-minded group came together to build the Lafayette Library & Learning Center that we now have. Panelists – including City Manager Steve Falk, longtime Friends of the Library Board Member Mary Ann Hoisington, past Board Member Gwenn Lennox, and Susan Weaver, who was librarian during the transition to our new LLLC in 2009 – will discuss the efforts made that resulted in today’s stunning Library & Learning Center.
Donations requested (pay at the door): $10 for LHS members; $15 non-members. Kids under 14 FREE with paying adult.
Dessert and beverages will be served.

Always curious about T’ai Chi, but not sure where to start? Looking for a low-impact way to improve balance and reduce stress in your daily life? Join us this ongoing class practicing the gentle Chinese martial art, T’ai chi ch’uan, with local instructor Robert Noha. Sensei Noha has more than 40 years experience teaching Aikido and T’ai chi ch’uan. Beginners welcome; join us every Tuesday night at 6pm.

This a free program for adults 18+, no registration is required.

Join us for an exciting and unique opportunity to learn meditation at the library! Using the timeless practice of Primordial Sound Meditation, certified meditation instructor Mojgan Kaviany, will lead a group meditation the 1st Tuesday of each month.

Practiced for thousands of years, meditation is a tool for rediscovering the body’s own inner intelligence. Primordial Sound Meditation uses individually selected sounds of nature called mantras to disconnect us from the activity of life.
